Artistic Director Topher Campbell talks about Protozoa which previews this week....

Saturday (18th September) saw the closing night of our first play at The Jellyfish Theatre. Oikos by Simon Wu was beautifully performed by the company and now hands over the baton to the next play Protozoa by Kay Adshead. Where Oikos was about a middle-class domestic landscape flooded by water and change; Protozoa is a about the passion and commitment of survival after the floods.

I am very pleased to be working with the hugely talented and compelling Kay Adshead. Kay is one of those rare artists who is totally committed to her core values both in her life and in her work. In Protozoa Kay uses the convention of the disaster movie and the passion of a love story to reflect on the possibility of a new future.

The Jellyfish Theatre itself becomes transformed into a space that blurs the distinction between inside and out and lifts the audience into the centre of the action. The creative team that includes Bernadette Roberts the designer are working hard this week to make the world of Protozoa come to life.

This is truly a unique and brave play that pulls no punches. As it is staged in the UK’s first and only recycled theatre it is also arguably one of the few really interesting theatrical experiences in London today.

Meanwhile please take a look around this site it has lots of info about the Oikos Project and great pictures by Brian Benson of the Theatre itself

I hope you and a friend can make it to Protozoa
